Craig Keene's photographic path was not an A to B journey. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Craig first studied film photography and photo print making at UMKC. After graduating, he began freelancing and learning from other prominent Kansas City photographers like, Mike Sinclair and Nick Vedros. But, his shooting career was put on hold to pursue another interest: writing comedy.
Craig started his own greeting card company in 2001. His unique style of edgy humor gained him a dedicated fan base on both a local and national level. However, in 2018, the creation ran its course and the longtime dream of becoming a photographer came full circle.
"I learned a lot living as a writer. There are a lot of parallels between writing and photography. Both require the creator to frame and compose. Whether it’s stringing together and rearranging words on a blank page or occupying a viewfinder where the lines and the light cultivate a flow, both demand a sense of order and give way to the process of creating something out of nothing”.
“There are three classes of people: those who see, those who see when they are shown, and those who do not see”. Leonardo DaVinci
Craig Keene currently lives in Roeland Park, KS with his wife and daughter, and their four legged best friend, Bridgette.
